Dreaming big is good. As I often tell a girl who used to do some work for me: “dont be afraid to reach for the stars, because if u fail, and only reach the clouds, you’re still above every body else.”
But, sometimes when you dream big, you dream too much. You can have too many different ideas, and no focus. Thats the issue im having with this site. When it comes to mpruv, i dont really know where to go with it. I know that i definately want to write self improvement articles. Thats a huge part of my life and what keeps me going every day. But I’ve also used this site for other things: game, clothes, etc.
Without focus, you really difuse your efforts. Spending time talking about everything means i’ll never really go i depth on anything. This also makes it difficult for me to be able to capture the right audience.
So im going to focus in on a few subjects. Mpruv is about improvment. Improving your life. Who should read this blog? Generation Xers and younger who have big dreams. The kind of urban young person who doesnt think that a 9-5 is what they were destined for. Why this age bracket? Because thats the age bracket im in.
Im at the age where Im expected to start thinking ‘career’. If I listen to the world’s expectations of me, id get a job, try to keep it for about 35 years and then retire and die. My greatest accomplishment would be a brand new cadillac and a house… maybe. But a big apartment just outside of the hood would be fine too. I just dont agree with that philosophy.
I have a 1 year old son (he turns 1 april 3rd 2008), a lil sister and a lil brother. I have a friend who wants to be a song writer/singer, and a baby momma who also wants to sing. The strange thing is, i feel like if i dont accomplish my goals, none of them will accomplish theirs. I feel like they all look to me to be the ‘never give up dreamer’ and somehow show them the way to success.
Fortunatly, I am a ‘never give up dreamer’. I know that if you keep working at something long enough, you will accomplish your goal. Ive seen it happen in my own life, and I’ve read about it happening in other peoples lives.
So thats what I want mpruv to be about. A place for people who dream big. This blog will be for that security guard who dreams of being a singer (Mike). For that ex-hustler who dreams of owning his own clothing store (Imani). For that pregnant 18 year old girl who will find her dream in the next couple of years and deserves to have a big brother who can help her(financially and otherwise) reach that dream (Minuet). For a girl who grew up singing in church and wants to - deserves to be a gospel singer (Peyton). For my son, who should be able to use me and my success as a stepping stone to take our family name to even greater heights. And for my readers, who not only understand where im coming from with all of this, but feel just as passionately about success as i do.
On my way to success, i promise to document both my successes and my failures. I encourage everyone who reads this to do the same in the mpruv forums. Since everyone has strengths and weaknesses, i encourage you to share your strengths with others. I know a thing or two about fixing credit, and since good credit is vital to our success in life, Im going to offer advice on that subject.
I wont be afraid to ask for help on the things that i’m not so good at either. Hopefully after everything is said and done, we’ll have a great community of young go getters helping each other reach goals and be the best that we can be.
Im also going to get rid of some of my posts that don’t really fit into this refined vision of mpruv; i.e. The post about coogi sweaters and what not. I may set up a second, more focused site just on fashion later.
I’m going to finish this post with the same saying from before as i believe its worth repeating; dont be afraid to reach for the stars, because if you only make it to the clouds, you’re still above everybody else.
